value in the useless.

Ever heard of Surrealism?

Surrealism aimed to revolutionise the human experience, rejecting a rational vision of life in favour of one that asserted the value of the unconscious and dreams. Poets and artists who supported the movement found strange beauty and magic in the unexpected and the unxanny the disregarded and the unconventional.

In this submission, I had to work with an object and study its attributes. The object in question needs to be useless or of no longer a vlue or stripped of its original intended function. With the object, I needed to distrupt its original form, their characteristics and contradict a logic to create the absurd.

The object that I picked for this assigment is a vintage rotary dial telephone, something that was oten use way before technology took over and smart phones became the norm today.
By using the Surrealist technique of juxtaposition, I wanted to replace the plastic material of the phone with concrete. The objective of this concept is to tke away the main purpose of this object and replacing it with something useless, making it pointless.
